Kremlin reveals dates for Putin’s India visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit New Delhi on December 4-5 for a summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Kremlin confirmed on Friday.

In what will be his tenth visit to India, and his first since 2021, Putin will discuss a range of bilateral and multilateral issues with Modi, who he has called his “personal friend.”

A full agenda of the summit next week has not yet been released by the Russian and India sides. The sides are expected to discuss the Ukraine conflict, India’s purchases of Russian defense equipment and energy resources, as well as trade issues.

“This visit is of great importance, providing an opportunity to comprehensively discuss the extensive agenda of Russian-Indian relations of a special privileged strategic partnership in political, trade-economic, scientific-technological, and cultural-humanitarian fields, as well as to consider current international and regional issues,” the Kremlin statement read.

Modi visited Russia twice in 2024, first in June for a bilateral summit in Moscow and then in October for a BRICS summit in Kazan.

The Russian and Indian leaders last met in the Chinese city of Tianjin, where they attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in September. They shared a ride in Putin’s presidential limousine, where they had a private hour-long conversation before holding delegation-level talks.

After the talks in Tianjin, Modi said his discussions with Putin were “always insightful.”
